Governance Commission Receives Excellence Performance Award
Monrovia, Liberia – The Governance Commission (GC) has been awarded the Performance Excellence Award under the 2025 Performance Management and Compliance System (PMCS), recognizing it as one of the best-performing government institutions.
The award was presented on Tuesday in Monrovia by the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Office of the Cabinet, in acknowledgment of the commission’s outstanding commitment to meeting performance targets set under the PMCS.
Launched by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai in October 2024, the PMCS is a comprehensive framework designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and public service delivery across all government sectors. It ensures that ministries, agencies, commissions (MACs), and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) remain accountable for their performance and fulfill their mandated duties.
In the latest PMCS ranking, the Governance Commission earned high marks on the scorecard for successfully accomplishing its targets.
The PMCS directly supports the government’s ARREST agenda, which focuses on accountability, responsiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and transparency. The Governance Commission also chairs Pillar-4 of the Arrest Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), that focuses on good governance and anti-corruption.
The Cabinet Secretariat at the Executive Mansion oversees PMCS implementation and conducts regular reviews to track progress across ministries, agencies, and commissions, with particular attention to financial performance and employee productivity.
During a general staff meeting on Thursday, Acting Chairperson Professor Alaric Tokpa expressed excitement over the commission’s achievement, attributing the success to collective effort and coordination. “Every staff member of the Governance Commission must be applauded for playing a pivotal role in this accomplishment,” Prof. Tokpa stated.
Commissioner Sianeh Sackie Juah also praised the staff, encouraging them to aim higher: “We can achieve even more in the coming years. Let’s continue to work together,” she said.
The Oversight Commissioner of the National Integrity System Mandate Area, Hon. Matthew Ballah Kollie, Jr., joined his colleagues in commending the staff for their dedication, which led to the award. He however cautioned against complacency: “This award should be seen as the beginning of greater achievements. If we continue to work harder, the Governance Commission can compete for the top spot,” Hon. Kollie emphasized.
